Gaspee Days 3-sold

Oil on panel, 6" x 8"
One more from the parade. These gals were fun to paint. Strictly segregated, though- I didn't see any of these colonial women playing the drums. I guess that's a man's job....

On another night- Friday night is the opening of Artists for Save the Bay. Over 50 artists will be participating. Tickets for the opening are $30.00; otherwise the show can be seen during business hours thru August.

Painters and Workboats- Sold

This past Wednesday I took my little painting group to Ocean Drive in Newport. It was a beautiful day, which has been rare lately. Here are 2 of my students slaving away at their easels. Below is a painting I did after class was over. I loved the colors and the reflections in the water.

Another participant in the parade. I'm enjoying painting costumes.

Gaspee Days Fife and drums

Oil on panel, 6" x 8"
We went to the Gaspee Days parade this past weekend, for the first time ever. The Gaspee was a British ship burned to the waterline by early American colonists. Rhode Islanders claim that this is where the American Revolution really started, not at that little dustup in Lexington shortly after.

Newport Harbor

Oil on panel, 8" x 10"
I'm teaching painting to a little group in Newport and we met for the first time on Wednesday. Unfortunately the weather has been very gray lately. These yellow and blue boats provided a little bit of color on an otherwise drab day. The weatherman says the sun will appear next week, yahoo!

Peonies and peaches

Oil on canvas, 6" x 8"
The peonies bloom for such a short amount of time, and every year I try to get at least one painting of them. Painting white flowers never seems to get easier. It's always a struggle mixing the right values and colors to define the shape. This is a study for a larger piece.

I have been working on some larger paintings recently- this is one...
