I got back from Canada last Thursday, went painting with my friend Ann on Friday morning in Jamestown. It was a beautiful morning, the surf was pretty wild.
On a recent trip to Newport we managed to get some half decent weather to do a little plein air painting. The view from Sachuest, with the light catching the front of St. George's school on top of the hill in the distance, is really beautiful.
Same spot, about 90 minutes later. The brown area in the front is the tops of trees. I tried painting some skinny trunks and branches but they looked really clunky, so I ended up using my palette knife to scrape/ blend them and realized the scratchy texture of the knife on the panel was perfect.
I went painting with my friend Ann on Thursday at Fort Wetherill, near Newport RI. It was a really beautiful day, the water was blue-green and the waves were kicking up, probably due to storms we've had lately.
