Cove mooring-sold

Oil on canvasboard, 6" x 6"
Yesterday my friend Janice and I went to the Newport Art Museum to see a show of paintings by Dora Atwater Milliken. Quite a nice show, I really admire her work.  Afterwards we went painting on Ocean Drive. I wiped off my first painting but was relatively happy with this one.

Tiger two-sold

Oil on canvas, 6" x 8"
Tiger lilies- they're so easy to grow, they're basically weeds, but the flowers are so very elegant and delicate. Unlike daylilies, they also seem to be good cut flowers; these have lasted several days, and they were in bloom for a while before I cut them.

In the courtyard

Oil on panel, 8" x 8"
I really liked this when I first started it but... I ended up cropping off the right hand side. Salvage what you can and move on...

Morning Sun-Sold

Oil on canvas, 6" x 6"
The light on these buildings caught my eye recently.
This coming weekend is the 10th Annual Little Compton Summer Art Show-  Friday night to Sunday, short and sweet. I have 2 paintings in the show. If you're in the area and looking for something to do, drop in. There's a link in the sidebar for more info.

Got the blues-sold

Oil on canvas, 6" x 6"
There really isn't anything in the flower world like a bunch of blue hydrangeas (and painting them small makes it easy to justify not painting individual petals)...

Watering pot

Oil on canvas, 6" x 6"
Last night I sat on the back steps and painted this old watering can that was in our yard when we moved in (20+ years ago) and now serves as a flower pot.
I've added a subscription service, for those who would like my new paintings delivered to their inbox (instead of that oh-so-tedious bookmarking or navigating through other blogs).  Just enter your email address in the box at the top right. Don't worry, it will never be abused.

Firecracker

Oil on canvas, 6" x 6"
I actually spent a lot of time thinking, what can I call this besides "Red lily"? How boring. Then last night we saw a big fireworks display and it came to me. It may be a bit of a stretch but, hey, happy 4th!

Mug o' lily

Oil on canvas, 6" x 8"
I just realized the other day that this blog is sort of turning into a record of what's growing in my yard, since I get a lot of my source material by walking out the back door. It certainly wasn't my original intention, but it works.

Lunch break II

Oil on canvas, 16" x 20"
My husband has been away for the past week, returning today, and I've been amazed at what a hermit I have been, painting from the time I get up in the morning, with only short breaks to do things I absolutely have to do.
Anyhow, I did a small painting of this last week and reworked it a little for this larger version. This is a restaurant in downtown Providence. I seem to have this fascination with umbrellas...
