A date at Rick's- sold

Oil on canvas, 6" x 8"
Rick's is a great place to go for cheap food and beer, picnic tables on the patio and bean bag tossing. I loved the way the sun came slanting in and framed the heads of this couple at the bar.

I like this very much. It's hard to believe the 6" x 8" size. There's a great rhythm; the sunbeams; the bars on the chairs; the subjective ‘beam’ coming forward through the light’s between the bars of the backs of the chairs – really lovely. I also like the way the guy in the foreground is cut off - visually it really does ‘cut out the rest of the world’ to this young couple.

I agree with Janice, but I also love the gesture and interaction between the couple. Very successful.

I love this painting. The warm quality of the light, the composition and the beautiful brushwork really make it a great painting.
