We got out early on Wednesday morning, a beautiful day, and went to the Southeast Lighthouse. This is the view looking east from the lighthouse grounds.

Block Island 1

Oil on panel, 8" x 10"
We had a great week on Block Island. It was a fun and interesting group of people. A tropical storm prevented the ferry from running on Friday, the day we were supposed to leave, so we had to stay over an extra night.
This is the first painting I did- a view from the backyard of the house where we stayed.

Sailboat sparkle-sold

Oil on panel, 8" x 10"
I started this "en plein auto" but ended up revising it a lot in the studio.  Trying to catch that sparkle in the water is a challenge.
I'll be painting on Block Island next week and won't be posting anything while I'm there. Hope to come back with lots of new stuff!

Sharp light-sold

Oil on panel, 8" x 8"
I really like the abstract qualities of this scene- the bands of lime green and orangey yellow, the spot of red (all sailboats should have bright colored sail covers, just for us painters).

A rainy afternoon had me painting these over-ripe pears.

Bold Point

Oil on panel, 8" x 10"
Yesterday afternoon was a beauty, and I managed to get out for a little while to paint this scene. The bridge in the background is I-195 connecting Providence and East Providence.

Orleans inlet- Sold

Oil on panel, 8" x 10"
I went to Cape Cod on Friday and painted with Janice and Anne. The day started off with a little sun but then the clouds took over. In spite of that we had a great time and I'm fairly happy with the painting I got- though it definitely would have been nicer with sun.

Back to the garden-sold

The last yellow roses, oil on canvas, 6" x 6"
My interest in floral painting has waned lately, but I hd to make time to paint these last few blooms from a little yellow rose bush I have.
I'd like to welcome my art school buddy and good friend Janice Thurston to the blogosphere. Check out her work, www.janicethurston.blogspot.com

Warren waterfront II-sold

Oil on panel, 8" x 10"
I wanted to paint this scene later in the afternoon to get that orange-y glow and yesterday was the perfect day to do it.
My friend Janice calls what I've been doing lately "en plein auto".  I love it.

Foggy morning, Barrington- sold

Oil on panel, 8" x 10"
I'm getting more addicted to plein air painting, particularly when I can sit in my car and do it-- less likelihood of people deciding they need to see what you're working on and to tell you about the people they know who paint.
This morning was foggy and I went to what is becoming a favorite place to paint to do this.

Striper Marina-sold

Oil on panel, 8" x 10"
I've had a hankering to paint puffy clouds lately, so when I saw them yesterday I tossed my painting gear in the car and headed down to the river. I'm happy with the result.
