While scrolling through some photos that I took a while ago, I came across these Rhode Island Reds and decided immediately I wanted to do a painting of them. I don't know much about chickens but I understand they have personalities (or would that be chickenalities?) and can actually make good pets.

I liked the soft pastel colors of this scene; I think they help create a relaxed mood. This painting is from a photo I took on Cape Cod a little while back.

Breakfast at the Biltmore

We went to a seminar at the Biltmore Hotel in Providence on Saturday (about selling stuff online) and they fed us breakfast. We were in a ballroom with chandeliers and tall windows with lots of light coming in. I snapped a quick photo of the waiter cleaning up. 

Spring on Newbury St.

This is a scene from last spring on Newbury St. in Boston, a street well known for its art galleries and trendy shops.

I spent the better part of last week working on this- and now that I look at it, I think I need to go back and fix a few things. It's nice painting lilies- their scent fills the studio while you're working.

Sometimes I just love painting over old paintings, as I did here. I sand the old painting to get rid of most bumps and lumps, leaving a smooth, non-absorbent surface with a fair amount of color still on it. If I'm lucky I get a painting that I like and diminish the pile of paintings that I don't.

I'm going to be half of a two-person show this summer at the Donovan Gallery, so I'm thinking summer! I loved the reflection of the sail of this little Sunfish, think I'll try painting a larger one.

Keeping this blog going is turning into a learning experience. Twice now, recently, my posts have disappeared; I managed to get them back, but the solution that worked the first time didn't work the second, so it's turned into a guessing game as to what exactly the problem is. Now Google has taken over Feedburner, which until now did a great job sending out each new post; but this morning it sent out a post that was over a month old. I tried pinging (am I sounding more like a geek?)- now I'll just have to wait and see what happens.

A trip to Quincy Market in Boston this past weekend yielded some interesting material for possible paintings. I loved the colors in this tropical fruit stand at the food court.

Well, it's a full-fledged blizzard here in Little Rhody, and I've got spring fever. I was going through some photos I took last year and came across some of these girls at a local school practicing lacrosse. Sunshine! Green grass! I'm there.
