Oil on canvas, 6" x 6"
Just trying out ideas for possible larger paintings... I keep thinking, I like still lifes that are light and airy but keep painting dark and mysterious. Not sure what to do about that.

Waitress with martini
Oil on canvas, 6" x 8"
I liked this waitress's attitude, she seemed to really enjoy talking with the patrons.

NY street scene-sold
Oil on canvas panel, 6" x 8"
From my trip to New York last week, a study for a possible larger painting. I loved the contrast between the single figure on the left, taking a break, with the busy-ness of all the people on the right.

Lobby at the Metropolitan Museum
Oil on canvas, 6" x 8"
In New York last week, I snapped a few photos of people in the lobby at the museum. They look more like they're waiting for a train. Absorbing all that great art can be exhausting!

Two umbrellas- NFS
Oil on canvas, 6" x 6"
The winner of the painting went into the wayback machine (remember that?) to find this painting. Unfortunately, it was one of the very few that wasn't available but wasn't marked as such. So, I did it again. I think I like this one better than the original.

Chinese tea
Oil on canvas, 6" x 6"
I've decided to start putting prices on some of the paintings I post here. This one is $100.00 plus $5. shipping. Payment with check or Paypal. For the next month I'll donate 30% of the proceeds from blog sales to the Red Cross for Haiti, and will send buyers a copy of the check that I send.

The winner...
To choose a winner for my painting I decided to just count the number of new subscribers, then write as many numbers on slips of paper, put them in a bowl, and pick one. The chosen number was 29; the winner was the 29th person who subscribed after the drawing was announced. That turned out to be Maureen from Holden, MA. Congratulations and thank you!
Also, I was in Manhattan for a few days and saw the "American Scene" show at the Met. Excellent show- a lot of paintings, many I had never seen before. It ends Jan. 24, so go if you've been thinking about it.

I'm going to be in the Big Apple so I won't be posting, but you can still subscribe to this blog until the end of the day, Jan. 15, to be entered to win one of my small paintings. I'll be picking the winner at random on Sunday.

Blue jug
Oil on canvas, 6" x 6"
A study for a larger painting which is almost done. I found this jug at a secondhand store and couldn't resist it.

The bartender
This Friday, Jan. 15th, is the last day to subscribe to this blog and be entered automatically to win one of my small (6" x 6", 6" x 8") paintings. I'll be choosing and notifying the winner on Sunday (I'll be out of town Friday and Saturday).
ALSO- all artists and performers in the Rhode Island area: The Courthouse Center for the Arts is hosting an evening called Rhode Island's Got Talent on January 23. There'll be a painting show and a talent show, so if you'd like to enter either one, check out the details on their website.

Counter conversation
Oil on canvas, 6" x 6"
We were in Philadelphia for a couple of days after Christmas, and went to the Reading Terminal market, a wonderful place filled with stalls selling all kinds of goods and wonderful food. I wish I lived nearby, I'd be there all the time.
I'll be choosing the winner for my new subscriber contest next weekend. Note to new subscribers: subscribing is a two step process. You'll get an email after you initially subscribe, and you must click on the email to finish the subscription. (This is for your own protection; it prevents people from signing you up for all kinds of stuff you don't want.) Sometimes the email ends up in your spam folder. Also, make sure you spell your email address correctly!

The Angel
Oil on canvas, 6" x 8"
This angel statue in the northwest corner of Boston Garden caught my eye this fall when I was delivering work to the Copley Society of Art.
New subscribers to this blog by January 15 could win this or another 6"x6" or 6"x8" painting.

Three waiters- sold
Oil on linen, 6" x 8"
Well, this is my 400th post; I started blogging just over 2 years ago. Seems like yesterday. When I started I was afraid I wouldn't be able to keep it going, but it's actually turned out to be one of the best things I've ever done to get my work in front of a wider audience, AND to meet other artists. Thanks to all who've ever visited, subscribed, and left comments- it's very much appreciated.
New subscribers until January 15 will have a chance to win one of my 6"x 6" or 6"x 8" paintings.
