More coffee 2- sold

Oil on canvas, 24" x 30"
I did a little painting of this waitress several months ago, and really wanted to do a large painting of the whole counter at this diner. I did quite a bit of work on it, then set it aside for a week or two. After that I could more easily see what needed to be done to finish it. I got rid of a figure behind the counter on the right, scraped off and simplified the ceiling at the end on the left, and generally tried to lighten, brighten, and bring to a degree of finish, without slavishly following the reference. That's always the question- how much do you spell out, how much do you leave to the imagination?

I think you simplified and stated in perfect balance. Really nice piece. (It's the double nickles charm)

I believe you found the correct mix of what to paint and what to leave out. The stools are killer!

This is just great! I love the reflections in the stools. Everything on the counter and walls are there without looking crowded. And the 3 figures are perfectly placed. You did a great job!

I'm guessing the Seaplane Diner on Allens Ave. Great painting, absolutely love it

Thanks for all the positive comments. Ed, it's actually the diner on Newport Ave. (used to be Chinese restaurant). Interesting, I guess the Seaplane must have the same color scheme!
