Take a deep breath

"Fall Foliage", oil, 5" x 7"

I've been thinking of resuming blogging for a few weeks now but have been putting it off because I didn't know what to say. The last time I posted on my blog was May 29, when my husband was in the hospital. He passed away in early July.

We were together for almost 40 years, so adjusting to life without him has been sad, uncomfortable,  lonely. I'm so grateful to the friends and family who have helped me get through this difficult time.

Recently I started painting again, going out with my friend Ann for a few plein air excursions and meeting up with the portrait group I've been going to for quite a few years. Keeping busy, putting one foot in front of the other, you get used to your "new normal". Time does heal, slowly, and getting out on a warm autumn day in the woods is restorative.

What sad news, Kathy. Condolences. I still regularly recall when you and Mike Rooney team-taught in Portsmouth - a great class with great teachers. I'm glad you're back to painting (and reveling in this year's spectacular foliage).

I'm so sorry Kathy. It's so brave of you to share your heartache at this difficult time. There is no clear path to healing from such a loss, but spending time in nature with friends is truly good for the soul.

be well,
dorothy

I am so sorry for your loss. It is so hard. You are so talented that it will help you heal. Go out and paint every day, your husband would want you to do this. I missed reading and seeing your fantastic art work. Time heals and friends help. Take good care of you....

I know exactly how you feel. I haven't been blogging much since my husband of 52 years passed away a year and a half ago. I'm glad to see you blogging again. I'm getting back on track slowly too. Like you say, just keep busy and putting one foot in front of the other, that's the ticket!

Kathy, so very sorry to hear of your loss. As you say, one step at a time, that's part of your work right now.. I missed your beautiful paintings arriving in my inbox and didn't want to intrude, but you have been and are in my thoughts. Love this one - soft, just-right tones, that rich Autumn light and a warm atmosphere and feel.

I was wondering just the other day why I hadn't seen any posts from your blog for a while. I am SO sorry to hear the sad news, Kathy. My deepest heartfelt wishes for comfort and solace are with you. I have followed your work for quite some time and know that you enjoyed traveling with your mate often. I'm glad you got to get out and do a lovely fall painting. I wish fall could last all year! Hugs.

What a lovely painting, and your blog was touching to read. Best wishes for your new Normal, it is a transition all of us will have to make at some point. Life can be beautiful, but tough as well.
