kathy...rosters on the beach..i mean boys...there is a strong complex intelligence in this seemly simple summer barnyad...i mean beach painting...the similarities between this work and the 'rhode island reds' is striking on many levels...beneath the sunny surface is the universal display of cocky maleness... mirrored in both paintings...the three adolesent boys are rosters in colorful swimsuits...the first boy is lifting his leg in the same swager as the struting roster in the painting below...the second boy is stationary and the third male is bent scanning in the opposite direction of his companions for females no doubt...Kathy...is male prowling behavior...(whether it is on the beach or in the barnyard)...so ridiculously obvious to females?? so birdlike??...so silly??
