The Rooftop Bar

Oil on canvas, 8" x 10"
I was at Waterplace Park in Providence recently, one evening when a concert was scheduled to start soon. I was wandering around, taking pictures, and found this vantage point from the the bar on the roof of the restaurant there. The light hitting the city skyline was breathtaking. I did this sketch, along with a couple of others, in preparation for painting a larger version. The challenge is to figure out what colors and values to use in the area in shadow.

Beautiful captured light. You did a great job with the shadow, too. I like your composition.

You've certainly worked out the sunlight portion well. Such wonderful warm yellows. Nice weight to the composition with the dark shadows at the bottom.

Terrific light! Love the combo of bright yellow and clear blue.
