Jump-sold

Oil on canvas, 6" x 6"
I got to the beach and played in the waves the other day- yahoo!
Also, my painting class in Little  Compton got off to a great start. Rain was predicted, but fortunately didn't materialize. It's a really great group- they even suggested having a crit with wine after the next class! Sounds good to me.

Rocks and waves-sold

Oil on panel, 8" x 10"
We went painting at the beach the other day and I foolishly decided to paint rocks and waves. Talk about a moving target! Waves come and go and come; rocks get covered and uncovered and covered. It makes you really appreciate the powers of observation of maritime artists in the days before photography.

If you're interested in this painting, send me a bid.

Dinner at McFadden's- sold

Oil on canvas, 16" x 20"
This is a larger piece I finished recently. If you've ever been to this restaurant, you'll notice I didn't include the row of TVs over the bar (too much light at the top of the painting, when I really wanted to focus on the waitress and the diners).  Makes it look like a nice place to just go and talk, doesn't it?
This painting isn't for sale right now- it's headed for a show in Philadelphia at the F.A.N. Gallery in August.

Two martinis-sold

Oil on panel, 6" x 8"
When we were out to dinner the other night I was struck by the late day light coming in and illuminating these two women at the end of the bar. The martinins and the red dress were an added bonus.

Oil on canvas, 6" x 6"
The outside bar at the Black Pearl restaurant in Newport is a great place to hang out for a few hours.

The rose arbor

Oil on panel, 8" x 10"
All the flowers this year are blooming about 2 weeks ahead of time, and I've felt like I'm playing catch up all spring. This rose arbor is in my backyard, and I got out and painted it the other day, while there were still roses on it. Once they're gone, that's it. I think I'm going to replace it with an everblooming variety in the fall.

View from Casey Farm

Oil on canvas, 16" x 20"
This is probably one of the nicest views in Rhode Island- looking across the bay toward Jamestown, with the Newport Bridge in the distance.

Workshop

The weather was beautiful Tuesday for a workshop at Connie P's house, with great views of the Westport River. Here's some of my group at work.

In the afternoon I started a demo of some geraniums in an urn. The clouds had been getting thicker all day and about 20 or 30 minutes into the painting, a squall blew through and nearly knocked my easel over. Papers went flying, everyone took refuge on the porch. We only got a bit of rain, though, and the sun was out in about another half hour. I ended up finishing this at home.

Skiff, reflected-sold

Oil on stretched linen, 6" x 6"
The weather this past weekend was fabulous. We went for a bike ride through the village of Wickford, where I spotted this little skiff.
