Ali

Oil on canvas, 12"x9"
Another portrait from my Monday night group. Ali told us that he belonged to a royal family in Afghanistan before his family was forced to leave 30 years ago. Eventually he and his wife and child landed in the U.S.

Folger's- sold

Oil on linen, 8" x 10"
I was searching for still life material that wasn't flowers and fruit, and found this in the basement. The can was a bear to paint, and I'm not totally happy with it, but my friend Ann insisted I post it, so here it is.
Email me for price.

Paint

Oil on canvas
This is part of a still life I was working on last week. Should have spent more time working on the composition before I got started, because I wasn't happy with the finished product, but I do like this section. It's probably about 12"x14".

Portrait

Oil on panel, 9" x 12"
I've been sticking with a limited palette when I go to my portrait group. Black, white, yellow ocher and cad red light, aka the Zorn palette. I'm teaching some workshops on using it, one in March at the
Portsmouth Arts Guild, and one in July.

Hemingway's Cats

Oil on panel, 6"x6"
In Key West you can take a tour of Ernest Hemingway's home. One of the major talking points of the tour (after his wives) is the cats. There are at least 40 of them, all supposed to be descendants of one of Hemingway's. His cat had double paws, aka 6 toes, and nearly half of the cats at the house have the same paws. During the day they have run of the house, although at night they're shooed outside because they would set off the motion detector. This one was sitting on the fountain on the front walk.

Key West chickens- sold

Oil on panel, 6" x 6"
We were in Key West for a few days of our trip to Florida. If you've ever been there, you've seen the chickens and roosters everywhere. The story we were told is that cock fighting used to be legal, but when it was banned the birds were let go to roam the streets at will. We were there less than 20 minutes when we saw a chicken crossing the street almost get run over by a tourist on a bicycle. We met someone who complained about hearing roosters crowing in the wee hours, but fortunately we never had to put up with that.
