Sunset in East Providence- sold

Oil on canvas, 8" x 10"
Anytime I see a sky full of dramatic clouds I feel the urge to paint it. The bonus here was the sun showing up at the end, peeking through the tree- I didn't know that was going to happen.

I like the light but am wholly impressed with your treatment of the clouds!

Kathy, I love the blockiness of your paint strokes and the overall feel of this. I've just come home from a 3 day 'oil painting for beginners' course and we looked at the difference between painting and illustration. As you're a former illustrator I wondered if it's a challenge for you to work so impressionistically - (this is most definitely a painting in my opinion) your work always gives me ideas and inspiration, thank you for your postings.

Thanks! The thing is, working outdoors as sunset approaches, and the clouds change continually, you barely have time to think. I was just trying to 1) match color and value, and 2) make the cloud shapes believable. I actually really love painting fast, it's when I do my best work.
