Veterans Parkway, near sunset

Oil on board, 8" x 10"
I painted this just before I left for LA. About an hour or so before sunset I got in my car and drove 2 minutes down to the bay. Clouds are hard to paint, they change so fast, all you can hope for is to get the general feeling.

Roses in water glass

We just got back from L.A. yesterday afternoon. I hope to get back in my studio today, but in the meantime I figured I'd post this. I did this a year or 2 ago.  The roses are from my garden.
We had a great time in California, going from the beaches to Joshua Tree National Park; the Getty Museum and the Getty Villa, both pretty amazing places; Hollywood Blvd., Antelope Valley to see the poppies in bloom (it's a very good year for that!), and lots of other stuff. It was great to be in a place where the sun shines all day every day, but in spite of that it is good to be home.

Bartenders- Sold

Oil on canvas, 6" x 8"
I'm pretty happy with the way this one turned out- the light dissolving the top of the front bartender's head was a happy accident.
Be back in a week.

Wine after work- Sold

Oil on canvas, 6" x 6"
The third in this series of little paintings of restaurant scenes. I have one more that I'll post tomorrow, then I'm off to Los Angeles for a week, so no new posts until the week after.

A Lovely Evening- Sold

Oil on canvas, 6" x 8"
I was asked to do a few more of these little restaurant scenes and have happily complied. This is a popular restaurant in Providence. It doesn't have a sign- just a big fork.

Spring Bouquet- Sold

Oil on canvas, 6" x 8"
I try every spring to do at least one painting of daffodils. We have so many coming up in our yard, it would seem like a waste not to.

Frame shop window

Oil on board, 8" x 10"
I think the guy who runs this place is a bachelor...

Farm truck-sold

Oil on canvas, 6" x 8"
I was wrong yesterday- Rhode Island is THREE hours later, not four.
This farm is in Tiverton, RI, in a lovely spot. You can see Narragansett Bay in the distance.

Thomas St. in the rain-sold

Oil on canvas. 6" x 8"
Didn't have time to post yesterday before leaving for the Handicraft Club. I'm really enjoying this teaching gig- thanks, ladies!
Also, I've gotten comments from people who are amazed that I'm up at 4Am to make these postings. I'm not - blog time is Google time, and Google is on the west coast. Rhode Island is 4 hrs. later.

Spring's finally here

Oil on canvas, 6" x 8"
Yesterday afternoon was so nice- finally!- I got into my car with my pochade box and drove around for a little while, saw the sun on this house, pulled over, put the windows down and painted. Not the greatest painting, but it sure felt good to be out on a spring afternoon.

Beach bocce

Oil on canvas, 8" x 10"
I've been wanting to paint these ladies for a while, and finally did it. This is a study; I want to try a larger version.
I took a workshop with Milt Kobayashi once, whose work I love; instead of using white he uses a light yellow. Recently I bought a tube of unbleached titanium white. It's a funny color, kind of like putty, and I used it as my lightest light in this painting.
