Daffodils and sugar bowl

Oil on canvas, 16" x16"
Lately, setting up a still life in the studio has been torture- I'd much rather be outside. It's hard, though, to completely ignore flowers popping up in the yard. I kind of feel obligated to paint them. So I decided to paint these daffodils.

Fort Wetherill 2

Oil on panel, 8" x 10"
I'm back from Charleston- what a lovely little city. If you haven't been there, I'd recommend it. Lots of history, beautiful architecture, shopping, restaurants and art galleries. Like a little Disneyland!
The painting above was done the same morning as the previous post. I've fallen in love with this place, can't wait to get back there to paint again.

The rock wedge

Oil on panel, 8" x 10"
I went painting in Jamestown again- it was a beautiful day. I was debating whether to do one more painting or to pack up and go when I saw this hillside across the water, its bones still visible before summer's green covers it, and decided to stay.
I'll be heading out tomorrow for Charleston, SC for a week. Won't be posting while I'm gone-- see you later!

Another morning in Jamestown

Oil on panel, 8" x 10"
My friend Ann and I went painting again in Jamestown this morning. The painting isn't great, but I was excited because I found some paths with great overlooks that i didn't know were there.

Forsythia on Benefit St.

Oil on canvas, 6" x 6"
Benefit St. is on the historic east side of Providence, loaded with beautiful old homes. I teach on Tuesdays nearby, and did this after my class yesterday.

Fort Wetherill morning-sold

Oil on panel, 8" x 10"
Same spot, about 90 minutes later. The brown area in the front is the tops of trees. I tried painting some skinny trunks and branches but they looked really clunky, so I ended up using my palette knife to scrape/ blend them and realized the scratchy texture of the knife on the panel was perfect.

View from Fort Wetherill- SOLD

Oil on panel, 8" x 10"
I went painting with my friend Ann on Thursday at Fort Wetherill, near Newport RI. It was a really beautiful day, the water was blue-green and the waves were kicking up, probably due to storms we've had lately.

Pitcher with peaches-sold

Oil on linen, 8" x 10"
I actually painted this about a month ago. This little pitcher, which I bought at Salvation Army, has turned into one of my favorite still life pieces.

Flowered sweater

Oil on canvas, 6" x 6"
Yesterday was a beautiful spring day in Providence, and there was a crowd on the deck of the Hot Club enjoying it. I liked the springtime feel of this woman's attire.

Three daffs

Oil on linen, 8" x 10"
Spring is really here, the daffodils are in bloom. I've done a lot of paintings of daffs over the years and always find it a challenge to paint yellow in shadow, and keep the color clean
