BACK to the diner

At the Seaplane diner again this morning with Ed. I'm going to have to find a better vantage point, I think.

The cure for the blahs

Oil on canvas, 6" x 6"
I've been fooling around with some flower paintings for a class I might be teaching and feel like I've found the cure for the winter blahs. Paint flowers! Fun, colorful, exuberant. I can (almost) guarantee you'll feel better.

Monday night's model.
And speaking of portraits, if you like John Singer Sargent, you might enjoy"Strapless" by Deborah Davis. It's about his painting of the famous Madame X. An easy and interesting read. As a society woman, she couldn't let just anyone paint her portrait. He had to convince her he was the right person for the job, and the result was extremely controversial.

Traveling, sketching

We just got back from a trip to Las Vegas and Death Valley National Park. We stayed in a little town called Beatty, NV, to go to the park, where I did some sketching. I also did my best to make use of time sitting in the airport, sketching the other captives. (If I never see the Las Vegas airport again, that will be too soon.)

On the easel

A few process shots of an 8" x 10" painting. Painted on a panel where I sanded off another painting, so there is color underneath. (I really love painting over old paintings, as long as there's not much paint buildup.) It's not quite finished.
Taryn Day has a wonderful blog called The Art Room, where she's currently writing about artists who blog. There's a nice post about moi. Check it out!
Also a shout out to Carrie Decker , who has a blog called Crazy Over Art, where she's featuring art by different artists.

Out with the old- sold

Oil on canvas, mounted on board, approx. 4" x 5"
I'm in housecleaning mode, and I've targeted all of those old paintings that I couldn't get myself to throw away or paint over because there were a few square inches of painting that I liked. So what I decided to do is cut out the pieces that I liked and throw the rest away. Brilliant, huh?

So here's the first, who can resist primroses, they have always seemed like harbingers of spring when I see them at the market.

$50.00 plus shipping.

Cheers- sold

Oil on panel, 10" x 8"
A couple of days late, but here's to a new year. I have two resolutions, and the second one is just to keep remembering the first.
