Sunset, Washington Bridge- sold

Oil, 8" x 10"
I started painting about a half hour before sunset, and 10 minutes later scraped it off because I realized I wanted to paint the big cloud that had just built up over the bridge. Then I painted as fast as possible until about 20 minutes after sunset when the light was gone and the gnats made it impossible to stay. For such little things, they can really bite. I imagine them as teeth with wings.

Kathy, I like the warm glow of the light in your painting. You've captured that magical time and atmosphere. It's so interesting and helpful hearing about your experience of painting it. Do you have boards prepared already with a variety of toned grounds, is that what you do so you can be ready for those brief minutes? I'm preparing to start painting oil landscapes (you see it's inspiring getting yours in my inbox!). I've painted landscapes in watercolour til now and oils are so different.

Bean- this was painted over another painting that I had sanded down. Having a variety of boards with toned backgrounds would be a good idea.

twilight at its best. Love the sparkling lights on the bridge.
